Early Education CenterPROGRESS REPORT SEPT, 2024

Café Femenino Foundation has been supporting the implementation of this Project since 2013, in the areas of greatest poverty in the Andean rural area, first in the regions of Lambayeque and Amazonas, then also in the Cajamarca region, in aspects of early stimulation and nutritional surveillance, whose strategy has been to train teachers, parents, auxiliary staff, health personnel and health promoters, with simple techniques and development of hygiene and eating habits that allow teachers to exercise important control over the nutritional status of their students.

In the year 2024, in the first semester there have been sporadic but very intense rains, very high temperatures, which have greatly affected crops for food production, in many communities the corn and legume crops have been lost. High temperatures have also affected the yields and quality of coffee, especially in lower altitude areas. The Nurse has made her usual visits during the months of May, June and July to 15 Educational Institutions to monitor weight and height, handwashing and tooth brushing workshops with children, as well as educational workshops on nutrition with parents and teachers. The visit to Pampa Hermosa will only take place at the end of the year due to the suspension of classes due to frost during the Nurse’s first visit cycle.

General Objective: Determine the nutritional status of children <3 to 6 years old, belonging to the benefited IEIs of the Amazonas, Lambayeque and Cajamarca regions.

Specific Objectives:
* Determine, interpret and analyze the nutritional status of children between 3 and 6 years old attending the Early Education Centers in the Amazonas, Lambayeque and Cajamarca.
* Raise awareness among parents about the importance of healthy eating, food safety, the importance of personal hygiene habits and prevention of dengue in the IEIs.
* Make proper handwashing and tooth brushing a habit for children between the ages of 3 and 6 years and healthy lunch boxes for parents attending the education centers

Early Education CenterWe Consider:
– That the first years of life are essential to form healthy eating habits in children and that health depends on food.
– That a balanced or healthy diet or one that is closer to natural is the only way to prevent diseases during the life cycle and that will allow us to face them, achieving a quick recovery.
– That, in difficult times like the present, it is essential to work with parents, students and teachers on nutritional education to assess the nutritional status of children and detect deficiencies and excesses early.
– That health begins in the kitchen of each home through the preparation of healthy diets, which must be administered in a balanced and hygienic way at times appropriate for each case. This is what has been instilled during the years that the project has been carried out: “Anthropometric Assessment of the Nutritional Status of Children from the Amazonas, Lambayeque and Cajamarca Regions”, participants of the Early Education Program.

IN SUMMARY:
It is important to maintain this program because nutritional education, especially in the rural sector, is an ongoing concern and this project remains essential to continue training teachers, mothers in charge of school cafeterias responsible for the food program and parents. This project is unique in communities where there is greater poverty because it is done at a preventive level and covers health, food, and education. The delivery of educational material and hygiene materials to the children of the early education centers is a very important support for the children and parents. Learning hygiene habits is something that they will keep in mind at all stages of their lives. This program allows sharing experiences, rescuing knowledge, and caring for the environment.
