The Santa Rosa/Espinal project of Replanting coffee trees and recovering the irrigation system damaged by Cyclone Yaku, to assist the producers who have suffered damage from landslides, water floods, landslides, with seeds, coffee seedlings and shade trees, hoses and pipes is in progress. This project is key in guaranteeing the income of the small producers and the sustainability of the family ensuring the coffee producers and young people stay in the communities and do not migrate to the cities, abandoning the fields when they see their investment lost due to the cyclone.

Preparing Coffee Nurseries
02 kg of coffee seed of the Marseillaise and Bourbon varieties has been delivered from the demonstration plot of the Villarrumi Producers’ Committee, this plot has organic certification within the CECANOR-PROASSA Specialty Coffee Program. These varieties, depending largely on harvest and post-harvest management, have a high cup quality.
In the demonstration plot of Villarrumi, a good productive behavior of these varieties has been evidenced, so it is being disseminated in committees with similar environmental characteristics.
5,000 coffee plants have been prepared, bagging has been carried out, they will be taken to the final field at the end of July. The delivery of irrigation material is also scheduled in the first half of August.
Results To Date:
- Producers are happy with how the Bourbon and Marseillaise coffee seeds are growing.
- They are grateful for the the support given by donors and that it was essential to recover from the problems caused by Cyclone Yaku.
- Producers have made a commitment to prepare organic fertilizers to improve coffee quality, improving the organic matter of their soils is necessary.
