Beekeeping Supplies – Nahuala
FUNDED by Cafe Femenino Foundation Supporters
This project supports a group of women members of the Nahuala cooperative for the purpose of diversifying income and providing a second income. Beekeeping also helps the coffee crops during flowering. This project purchased 30 additional bee boxes and hives to add to their already 30 boxes. They now can increase their honey production and pursue their dream of being certified organic. When harvesting begins, it will generate more income for women and generate jobs within the community.
Their goal is to look for market internationally so they can sell at good fair market prices and start producing additional products such as pollen, wax, royal jelly and propolis.
What is propolis?
Propolis is a resinous substance that bees produce from materials collect from tree buds. Rich in flavonoids, a class of antioxidants, propolis has a long history of use as a natural treatment for a host of health problems. Propolis has many healing properties, including antimicrobial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor qualities. Propolis is used as an ingredient in supplements and certain medicinal products applied directly to the skin, such as ointments and creams. In addition, propolis is sometimes found in nasal sprays and throat sprays, as well as in mouthwash and toothpaste.
