Breast cancer is the most common first neoplasm among Peruvian women with more than 6,000 diagnoses per year. 90% of cases have a high chance of cure if detected in early stages, improving their prognosis and quality of life. This Breast Cancer Awareness Workshop is aimed at reducing cases of breast cancer by educating the women on ways to detect the symptoms of possible breast cancer, share the basic concepts related to risk factors for developing cancer, such as genetic factors and harmful habits. Workshops will include early-cancer detection, as well as, provide information on where to seek assistance should a suspected case arise. and resources available in the event of a possible case.
Annual mammograms are “not a thing” for the women in the remote coffee communities. In fact, when you live 4-6 hours by bus to get to a medical facility and you don’t have the knowledge we have about their body it just is not a priority. They are curious because they do hear there is information out there that can help them, maybe even save their lives. Let’s make it happen – provide the funds that will fund the Breast Cancer Awareness Workshop.
These 100 women have asked for your help to fund this one-day Breast Cancer Awareness workshop in Cajamarca. The workshop will include how to detect the symptoms of possible breast cancer, as well as, provide information on where to seek assistance should a suspected lump be detected.
The women will also receive information on basic concepts related to risk factors for developing cancer, such as:
- Smoking & alcohol consumption
- Exposure to solar radiation
- Poor nutrition & obesity
- Infections and hormones
Breast Cancer Awareness Workshop
This Prevention Campaign as an educational project that serves as a vital tool for facilitating training and, ultimately, improving the health of women in rural areas. This grant will cover costs of the self-care and self-exam materials for 100 women, medical consultation and mammography to establish a diagnosis if cancer is suspected and cost of the workshop facilitator.
