Family of Giving
The construction of the 5 meter wide by 15 meters long building faced a few challenges due to weather and the cost of materials and freight increasing during the construction period making them exceed the budget even after the donor provided additional funds. The community now possesses a facility that meets all the necessary conditions to facilitate meeting for the local women and community-based social organizations.
This project was a group effort. The producers received support from the Salas District Municipality, which provided machinery to lever the terrain; the producers manufactured the 5,000 adobe bricks required to erect the wall; the walls for the two rooms were erected. The roof structure was constructed using iron; the labor was provided by the youth of the local producers who completed their technical training at SENATI. Flooring was installed in both rooms; baseboards and walkways were installed along with drainage trenches to divert rainwater that might otherwise flow in from the road.
Comments from the project organizer: the producers participated enthusiastically in the construction of the facility “Casa Femenino” and take great pride in the building they now possess.
PREVIOUS UPDATES:
Casa Femenino San Jose Huanama is well underway. The land was cleared making it possible to start construction. The construction area is 5 meters wide by 15 meters long. The producers have already made 5,000 adobe blocks. Due to cost increases they will be updating the price quote for windows, doors and cement to be able to complete the project.There is a lot of community enthusiasm as they all are working together to see their new Casa Femenino community center come to fruition. The target date for completion is February, 2025.
