Granting HOPE Together Sponsorship

GHT Bee Project
Each year the Café Femenino Foundation along with the Granting Hope Together sponsors will Group Fund a specific grant request.

The Café Femenino Foundation, established in 2004 by Garth and Gay Smith, aims to empower women and their families in coffee-growing communities worldwide. Initially inspired by witnessing the lack of rights and opportunities for women in these regions, the foundation operates as a non-profit organization, relying on grants to fund various community projects. These projects range from health and sanitation initiatives to income diversification and education programs. By directly engaging with local producers and organizations, the foundation ensures that donations have a tangible and meaningful impact. Since 2004, the foundation has made significant strides in reducing poverty levels, combating abuse, and promoting gender equality within coffee communities. Through donations and spreading awareness, individuals and companies can contribute to building a brighter future for coffee-producing families worldwide.

We invite you to participate in the 2026 Granting Hope Together campaign. Together we can continue to make a difference is the lives of women and families in the remote coffee-producing communities in Peru.

Granting Hope Together 2026 Beekeeping Phase II

Coffee is now the main income generating product in the Amazonas region of Northern Peru, however the market price volatility makes it difficult for producers’ when prices are low. The beekeeping project consists of purchasing materials to build ten (10) bee boxes for each community, bees, harvest equipment and workshops on all aspects of beekeeping. Workshops planned will address: Bee-Honey Production; Care of Bees; Honey Harvest, Royal Jelly, Pollen; Processing and Packaging of Honey; Uses of Honey in Food; Packaging and Labels.

A successful bee project will not only provide a second income, it will improve the coffee production by pollinating the coffee flower. The pollination will contribute to improving the quality of the coffee and other grains grown in the region. Honey will be produced from October to January during coffee flowering time and again from February through September during fruit flowering time. This project will provide additional income for ten (10) families in each of the communities of Roblepampa, Cococho and San Antonio.

The type of bees: Carniolan bees (*Apis mellifera carnica*) crossed with local bees (generally European black bees already established in the area, or local hybrids). The aim with this type of bee is to combine the high productivity and docility of the Carniolan with the hardiness and adaptability of the local varieties.
