Coffee Ecosystem Recovery, Damaged by Cyclone Yaku 2022-49

Progress Report January 2024

Objective: Recover their coffee plantations and irrigation systems to guarantee the income of small producers and ensure the sustainability of the family.
Scope: Project benefits 28 families in the community of Tallapampa

Activities:
ESTABLISH A COFFEE NURSERY IN TALLAPAMPA
The area to be used has been cleaned, seed and nursery beds have been prepared using 40 cans of sifted sand have been added the beds to germinate 04 kg of seeds.

Coffee seeds of the Marseillaise and Bourbon varieties has been delivered from the demonstration plot of the Villarumi Producers’ Committee, this plot has the organic certification within the CECANOR Specialty Coffee Program.These varieties, depending heavily on harvest and post-harvest management, have high cup quality

In the demonstration plot of Villarrumi, a good productive performance of these varieties has been evidenced, so it is being disseminated in committees with similar environmental characteristics.

10,000 coffee plants will be prepared, we are about to carry out the bagging and take it to the final field in 5 or 6 months.

PIPES, HOSES AND FITTINGS

An initial distribution of 1.5″ hoses has been made to the seven (7) producers whose irrigation systems were affected most by Cyclone Yaku.
